The teams meet again Friday in the second game of the 2018 NHL Global Series in Finland, Laine’s homeland.

HELSINKI — Patrik Laine gave the people what they wanted.
What he wanted — needed — too.
The Winnipeg winger scored three goals to pace the Jets to a 4-2 victory over the Panthers Thursday at sold-out Hartwall Arena.
The teams meet again Friday in the second game of the 2018 NHL Global Series in Finland, Laine’s homeland.
The 20-year-old from Tampere snapped a five-game scoring skid with a couple of power-play goals from his favourite spot, the left faceoff dot. He also scored into an empty net to register the hat trick, and lids rained down on the ice after the tally.
He now has six goals this season. Five have come on the power play.
The Panthers were two-men short when Laine ripped his second at 3:28 of the final period to snap a 2-2 tie.
Mathieu Perreault opened the scoring for the Jets.
Keith Yandle and Evgeni Dadonov replied for the Panthers (2-5-3).
Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves, including a brilliant stop on Mike Hoffman just before Laine’s empty-netter sealed things. Manitoban James Reimer stopped 33 shots in the Florida cage.
