Scheifele’s OT marker snags win against Stars

Mark Scheifele scored 21 seconds into overtime Sunday to give the Winnipeg Jets a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars.

Winnipeg improves to 10-7-1 on the season, including 4-0-1 in the last five. Dallas falls to 8-8-2.

Patrik Laine opened the scoring on the power play with 27 seconds left in the first period, one-timing a shot past Dallas goalie Anton Khudobin. It was the first goal in 11 games for Laine, and just his fourth of the year.

But it came against the team he’s had more success against in his career than any other. Laine now has 16 goals (and five assists) in 14 games against the Stars.

Winnipeg failed to carry the momentum over to the middle period. Mattias Janmark tied the game at 5:22, and Radek Faksa gave the visitors a 2-1 lead at 10:27.

But the Jets poured it on in the final frame, forcing overtime when Andrew Copp tied it up at 1:52 when he buried a rebound off a Tucker Poolman shot.

Winnipeg wraps the four-game homestand on Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche.
