U of M golfers finish third in Chilliwack

The University of Manitoba Bisons men’s golf team combined for the low total of the of the day (six-under-par 282) to claim a third-place finish at the Canadian University/College Championship Friday.
The tournament, hosted by Golf Canada at Chilliwack Golf Club, was won by the Fraser Valley Cascades with a 26-under-par total while the University of Victoria Vikes took second with a nine-under-par total. The Herd finished at even par for the tourney.
Devon Schade shot a final round 70 to move into a tie for fourth in the individual competition at minus-5. Josh Neufeld finished a strong week, tying for 22nd with a final-round 71. Jack Werhun shot his second 68 this week, tying the low round on the men’s side to finish tied for 30th at four over.
While the Bison women’s team missed the final-round cut, Veronica Vetesnik made it as an individual, wrapping up with a 76 to climb to sixth place at plus-13.
The UBC Thunderbirds won the women’s team event.
